I am a devoted mender. Breathing new life into old clothes makes me feel so industrious. Usually, this involves something like replacing buttons or fixing straps, but when tragedy struck a white blouse I loved, a little more creativity was required.
I had an embroidered linen top with white on white embroidery. Like anything linen, it wrinkles. I started ironing it before I realized that it's not meant to be ironed...and the embroidery started burning and turning brown!
Oh dear. After I got over my disappointment, I thought that perhaps this lovely blouse could be revitalized by dying it a dark color to cover up the brown, so I headed to the hardware store for some RIT black dye.
Everything came out even better than I could have hoped -- the linen absorbed more of the dye than the embroidery did, so now the embroidery stands out beautifully.
I like it even more than I did in white!
This is awesome.
